The Mac Pro has seen just four hardware updates in the last 15 years, and that\u2019s counting <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2012\/08\/as-mac-pro-stagnates-pc-workstations-muscle-ahead\/\">a 2012 refresh<\/a> that was mostly identical to the 2010 version.<\/p>\n<p>Long-suffering Mac Pro buyers may have taken heart when Apple finally <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2023\/06\/this-is-the-new-apple-silicon-mac-pro\/\">added an M2 Ultra processor to the tower in mid-2023<\/a>, making it one of the very last Macs to switch from Intel to Apple Silicon\u2014surely this would mean that the computer would at least be updated once every year or two, like the Mac Studio has been? But Bloomberg\u2019s Mark Gurman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/newsletters\/2025-11-16\/apple-s-iphone-road-map-iphone-air-2-iphone-18-mac-pro-future-tesla-carplay-mi1q4l2o\">says<\/a> that Mac Pro buyers shouldn\u2019t get their hopes up for new hardware in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Gurman says that the tower is\u00a0\u201con the back burner\u201d at Apple and that the company is \u201cfocused on a new Mac Studio\u201d for the next-generation M5 Ultra chip that is in the works.
