The quants running money at hedge funds look at the same chart you do and see something completely different \u2014 a probability map of how markets move between bull, bear, and sideways states.<\/p>\n<p>This breaks down the full hedge fund method in ten simple concepts: how quants quantify the market like a meteorologist, how they classify today&#8217;s state, and how a transition matrix turns price history into the odds of what happens tomorrow. No jargon. No maths you need a degree to follow.<\/p>\n<p>I built a version of this a few weeks ago on an older model. It went semi-viral \u2014 a quarter of a million views \u2014 but it shipped with three real flaws. So I handed the whole strategy to Fable 5, the new model so powerful its release was delayed, and asked it to find what was wrong. It did.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest fix was lookahead bias. Most backtests quietly cheat \u2014 they let the strategy learn from events that hadn&#8217;t happened yet, like sitting an exam after seeing the answers. Correct that, and the numbers change: the S&#038;P 500 turns profitable across 30 years, and Bitcoin shows closer to 60x. Backtests always flatter.
