This has led to bold new strategies, like an <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2024\/11\/an-ad-giant-wants-to-control-your-next-tvs-operating-system\/\">adtech firm launching a TV OS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2024\/09\/lg-tvs-continue-down-advertising-rabbit-hole-with-new-screensaver-ads\/\">ads on TV screensavers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With new short films set to debut on its free streaming service tomorrow, TV-maker TCL is positing a new approach to monetizing TV owners and to film and TV production that sees reduced costs through reliance on generative AI and <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2024\/10\/streaming-industry-has-unprecedented-surveillance-manipulation-capabilities\/\">targeted ads<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>TCL&#8217;s five short films are part of a company initiative to get people more accustomed to movies and TV shows made with generative AI. The movies will \u201cbe promoted and featured prominently on\u201d TCL&#8217;s free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service, TCLtv+, TCL announced in November.
