I tested Bollinger Bands (20, 2) on real data with trading costs included. The classic bounce rule (buy below the lower band, sell at the middle line) beat just holding on EUR/USD: +9.7% vs +3.4% on the 1-hour chart. On Bitcoin, the exact same rule won 60% of its trades and still lost 50.6%, because the average loss was twice the average win.
