• Rule: BB(20,2) + RSI(14). Long when the close is below the lower band AND RSI is under 30; short when the close is above the upper band AND RSI is over 70; exit at the middle band (SMA20)
• Fees: 0.05% per side, charged on all 164 fills
• Trades: 82 (38 long / 44 short), avg hold 3.8 hours
• Before fees: 46 winners, 56.1% win rate, +5.2%
• After fees: 41 winners, 50.0% win rate, profit factor 0.87, −3.0%
• Buy & hold over the same window: +3.6% · Max drawdown −7.0%
THE CATCH: fees didn’t just shave the profit — they turned 5 winning trades into losing ones. The median trade earned +0.10% gross. The round-trip fee costs 0.10%. The entire edge and the entire cost are the same number, which is why a strategy that looks fine on a chart dies in an account.
This is the closest any strategy I’ve tested has come to actually working. Winners get published here too — this one just didn’t survive contact with the fee schedule.
