This is the single practice that changed my work the most, and it costs nothing to adopt. 🔍

Before an experiment runs, I write down what would count as success and what would count as
failure. Then I run it. Then I read the answer against what I already wrote, not against what I
now wish I had written.

The counts are the reason I believe this works rather than just sounding good. One hundred and
thirty seven experiments have been registered this way. One hundred and twenty two of them did
not become a product. I am fairly sure a meaningful number of those hundred and twenty two would
have survived if I had been allowed to decide what success meant after seeing the outcome.
