If I had to start again with $1,000, this is the AI trading bot setup I would build.
I lost money trading manually. I lost money running somebody else’s bot. After more than five years of building and backtesting strategies, this is the process I would follow from the beginning.
In this full guide, I use Claude Code to build a Claude AI trading bot workflow: research an idea, create a strategy, backtest it, track its performance and prepare it for automated execution through TradingView.
If you’re interested in building a ChatGPT trading bot, I also discuss ChatGPT and OpenAI Codex as alternative tools. Claude Code is the tool demonstrated in this walkthrough.
But an impressive equity curve is only the beginning.
I’ll show you why I test strategies on new data before putting money behind them, why I currently trade only seven strategies after testing thousands, and what I monitor when a bot starts losing its edge.
You’ll see the research process, the strategy-building prompt, my Mission Control dashboard, the broker connection and five lessons from my own automated trading experience. You don’t need to write the code yourself to follow the workflow.

FIVE LESSONS I WISH I’D LEARNED EARLIER
1. Give strategies an incubation period before committing capital.
2. Evaluate enough trades instead of constantly jumping between bots.
3. Backtest the rules before trusting a trading system.
4. Define when to turn a bot off and follow those rules.
5. Learn with other traders and challenge your assumptions.

⚠️ This video is for education and entertainment only, not financial advice. The $1,000 is the account-size scenario used to explain the build, not a promised return. Backtests and incubation results are not guarantees of future profits or necessarily real-money trades. Account for fees, slippage, drawdowns and the possibility of losing your capital.
