MATLAB is widely used in DSP, telecommunications, radar, and wireless communications—but its licensing cost can be a serious barrier for students and beginners. That’s where GNU Octave, a free and open-source scientific programming language, comes in. Octave claims to be drop-in compatible with MATLAB—but how true is that claim?
In this review, we:

✔ Run and debug basic DSP scripts
✔ Test real MATLAB scripts from multiple tutorial series
✔ Compare plotting, debugging, and IDE usability
