Last year, with Dr Bialystok, we talked about the cognitive benefits of Multilingualism. In this interview with Dr Froso Argyri, we will talk more precisely about the multi-LITERATE brain. What happens in the brain of a child who can read in multiple languages?

WHO IS DR FROSO ARGYRI
Dr Froso (Effrosyni) Argyri is a child multilingualism researcher at UCL’s IOE Faculty of Education and Society. Her research has focused on the language and literacy development of school-age bilingual children, on the role of age of onset of bilingual acquisition, of the amount/quality of input and crosslinguistic influence in language learning. Her current research adopts an interdisciplinary approach and investigates early childhood bilingualism effects on language, cognition and the brain and biliteracy effects on cognition in bilingual school-age children. She is the convenor of the Multilingualism Special Interest Group of the British Association of Applied Linguistics (BAAL). She is a co-founder and director of UCL BiLingo (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ioe/departments-and-centres/centres/centre-applied-linguistics/ucl-bilingo), a bilingualism/multilingualism information and education service, which aims to bridge the gap between researchers and the wider community (policy makers, educators, parents, pupils) by disseminating recent research findings on growing up with two or more languages in childhood.
